Gyeongnam Education Community Emphasizes Peace Education Amidst US-Iran Conflict

Jeon Chang-hyun, a Gyeongnam Provincial Superintendent candidate, issued an urgent statement on the 17th, referencing the tragedy of young lives lost in a primary school attack in the Middle East, and pledging to transform Gyeongnam's classrooms into havens for life and peace.

The statement detailed how numerous young lives were sacrificed in an attack on a primary school in a southern Iranian region. Jeon highlighted the plumes of black smoke over Middle Eastern cities and the displacement of people, pointing out that the gaze of children witnessing these war realities leaves poignant questions. He stated this reconfirms the brutal nature of war, which dismantles the most vulnerable first.

Jeon argued that if children witnessing the current conflict come to understand the world as a place to be conquered by force, it would signify a failure of education. He emphasized that the path to true peace lies in understanding and extending a hand to one another, rather than through competition and hostility.
