SK Hynix Gears Up for KRW 100 Trillion AI Semiconductor Market

SK Hynix has set a goal to secure over KRW 100 trillion in net cash to prepare for the AI era. Kwak Noh-jung, CEO of SK Hynix, officially announced this target on March 25 during the 78th regular shareholders' meeting, highlighting the memory industry's entry into a growth phase driven by AI proliferation. The company aims to establish a foundation for long-term growth by securing top-tier global financial strength. CEO Kwak noted that while its financial health is improving, further enhancements are needed compared to global leaders. To secure preemptive investment capacity amid the AI market's rapid expansion, SK Hynix is pursuing a listing of its American Depositary Receipts (ADRs). As of the end of last year, SK Hynix's net cash stood at KRW 12.6944 trillion, indicating a significant fundraising effort is required to achieve the KRW 100 trillion target.

SK Hynix is preparing for the AI era by aiming to become a 'full-stack AI memory company' through expanding next-generation high-stack products like HBM4 and HBM4E, strengthening cooperation with AI chip clients such as GPU and ASIC manufacturers, securing competitiveness in high-performance AI DRAM and NAND products, and developing next-generation technologies including PiM and CXL. The business strategy is being reorganized around AI. The plan involves expanding the lineup of next-generation high-stack products like HBM4 and HBM4E, and reinforcing collaboration with various AI chip clients to maintain its market-leading position.

In the AI DRAM sector, SK Hynix will enhance competitiveness by focusing on high-performance products. For its NAND business, the company will address the increasing demand for storage driven by the expanding AI inference market, primarily through enterprise high-performance SSDs (eSSDs). AI technology will be integrated across its entire process, from design to manufacturing, to improve operational efficiency and strengthen mass production quality competitiveness.
