People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk stated on social media on the 29th that a significant number of Democratic Party candidates for the local elections are currently under investigation or on trial, criticizing it as "an era of criminals." On his Facebook page that day, Jang shared an article about DP lawmaker Jeon Jae-soo, who is under investigation for alleged bribery from the Unification Church, being selected as a candidate for the Busan mayoral primary. In the post, Jang referred to Rep. Jeon as "Rep. Jeon Jae-soo who threw his hard drive into the furrows" and likened the DP's prospective candidates to "an era of criminals."

Jang went on to name Kim Yong, former vice president of the DP's Institute for Future Strategy, and former lawmaker Song Young-gil, who are reportedly considering runs for the special elections in Gyeonggi's Ansan Gap and Incheon's Gyeyang-eul constituencies, respectively, detailing their alleged offenses. He identified them as DP candidates for the upcoming local and by-elections, stating, "Kim Yong, former vice president of the Institute for Future Strategy, who was sentenced to five years in prison in the second trial for receiving 670 million won in bribes, and Song Young-gil, the mastermind behind the party's convention 'money envelope' scandal."

Kim Yong, former vice president, has been convicted in the first and second trials for illegal political fund solicitation and is currently out on bail. In the second trial, he was sentenced to five years in prison for allegedly receiving 670 million won in bribes. Song Young-gil, former lawmaker, was indicted in the "money envelope" scandal but was acquitted and has since rejoined the Democratic Party.
