18-Year-Old Athlete Paralyzed From Waist Down After Shooting

In Richardson, Texas, an 18-year-old high school athlete was shot and left paralyzed from the waist down after intervening to help a friend who was being attacked. Police transported the gunshot victim to the hospital from the scene immediately after the incident, and he is in stable condition.

Two individuals, Taylor Griffin, 18, and Charles Webster, 17, have been arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity in connection with the incident.

Before the shooting, Jackson juggled academics and sports while working two jobs. He had already been accepted to the University of Houston and signed a lease for housing for the fall semester, but his plans have been upended by the incident.

Jackson's father, James Jackson, described the situation at the time, saying, "There are no good news calls in the middle of the night." His family is now facing an unexpected reality, including making home modifications to accommodate wheelchair use.
