Intel CEO Discusses Manufacturing Innovation with Musk

Intel has announced an innovation in semiconductor manufacturing methods following a weekend meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, signaling its participation in Musk's 'TerraFab' semiconductor project. On the 7th (local time), Intel confirmed via its official X (formerly Twitter) account that it will 'refactor' the silicon fab technology for the TerraFab project, in collaboration with SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla. Refactoring refers to the development process undertaken to enhance chip performance and reliability.

TerraFab is a mega-scale semiconductor production facility that Musk is pursuing for the in-house production of chips required for AI, robotics, and space data centers. Musk stated last month that existing semiconductor production capacity cannot meet demand, and he plans to prioritize building an advanced technology fab in Austin, Texas.

The Intel CEO stated on his personal X account, "Elon has a proven track record of reimagining entire industries, which is what is needed in semiconductor manufacturing today." He added, "TerraFab will bring significant changes to the way silicon logic, memory, and packaging are manufactured going forward."

Gil Luria, an analyst at investment bank D.A. Davidson, commented, "Intel needs to show that it can support projects for very large customers, and this collaboration with Tesla is an example of that." Intel's stock rose over 4% from its previous close, reaching $53 at 12:45 PM Eastern Time.
