20-something sets fire to 6 officetel safety systems after dispute with parents

On the 8th, a man in his 20s, identified as A, was arrested by police in an officetel in Namdong-gu, Incheon, on suspicion of setting fire to and damaging 6 smoke removal devices installed in the hallway after quarreling with his parents. A portable lighter was used in the commission of the crime.

This arson resulted in 6 smoke exhaust damper circuit boards being burned, causing property damage estimated at 1.03 million won by the fire department, and approximately 120 officetel residents were evacuated. Smoke exhaust dampers are devices that discharge smoke to the outside or block its spread during a fire.

The Incheon Namdong Police are investigating A on charges of arson to occupied buildings. The police stated that they would consider applying for an arrest warrant after further investigating the circumstances, including whether A is a resident of the officetel.
