AI to Build Smart Campus at Busan University
Pukyong National University and Samsung Electronics have joined forces. They are embarking on the construction of a 'smart campus' that combines AI and digital twin technology to enhance the energy efficiency of a university campus in Busan.
By integrating AI, IoT, and digital twin technologies, they will manage air conditioning, lighting, and power facilities used across various campus buildings on a single platform. Digital twin technology, which creates a virtual replica of physical buildings in a digital space, will be used to simulate energy-saving strategies and identify optimal operational methods. Samsung Electronics has confirmed an energy saving effect of up to 18% in existing buildings where this system has been applied.
The system will first be piloted in five buildings at the Daeyeon Campus, with plans to expand it across the entire campus over the next three years. An AI joint research center, involving faculty from relevant departments, will also be established to foster talent tailored for on-site applications.
