Hyundai Motor Group to Invest 9 Trillion Won in Saemangeum, Including Gimje

Hyundai Motor Group has decided to make a large-scale investment of 9 trillion won in the Saemangeum region, and it has been confirmed that part of this project site will be included in Gimje City, North Jeolla Province. Hyundai Motor Group signed the 'Investment Agreement for Fostering Advanced Robot and Hydrogen Industries and Creating an AI Hydrogen City in Saemangeum' with the central government and North Jeolla Province on February 27. The agreement states that an investment of 9 trillion won will be made from 2026 onwards on a 1.124 million ㎡ site in the Saemangeum region, covering areas such as robots, AI, hydrogen energy, solar power generation, and an AI hydrogen city.

Ra Kyung-gyun, President of Saemangeum Development Corporation, announced that Hyundai Motor Group's 9 trillion won investment plan includes a humanoid robot manufacturing plant and a hydrogen city within the Saemangeum waterside city. The government decided last April that 6.6㎢ of the Saemangeum waterside city falls under Gimje City's jurisdiction.

This is raising expectations for regional economic revitalization and the fostering of future new industries.
