Hana Insurance Employees Join Farmers with Developmental Disabilities for Produce Harvest Volunteer Event
Hana Insurance conducted volunteer activities on January 9th at Purume Social Farm in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, harvesting, sorting, and packaging cherry tomatoes alongside farmers with developmental disabilities. This event, the second following their initial visit in October last year, provided employees an opportunity to foster mutual growth with the local community. Participants focused on the experience of working together with employees with developmental disabilities, engaging in tasks such as sorting, classifying, harvesting, and packaging cherry tomatoes. They divided roles according to the workflow and moved in unison, emphasizing seamless collaboration with the workers with developmental disabilities.
Purume Social Farm is a smart farm operated by the Purume Foundation, aiming to create a stable working environment and foster independence for individuals with developmental disabilities. The farm is recognized as a sustainable workplace model where individuals with and without disabilities work together.
Bae Sung-wan, CEO of Hana Insurance, expressed his impression of how the young farmers with developmental disabilities find their roles here, work consistently, and build a stable foundation for their lives. He added that Hana Insurance will continue its support and participation to help sustain their will and efforts.
An official from Purume Social Farm expressed gratitude for the company's return visit this year, following last year's. They stated that the direct help provided was of practical benefit to the farm, and the atmosphere of working together became more vibrant.
Including this activity, Hana Insurance is expanding its engagement with the local community through various social contribution initiatives. The company has sustained free meal services for the elderly for over a year, and continues its consistent sharing activities through donations from its in-house bazaars, coal briquette sharing, support for orphanages, and environmental cleanup volunteer work.
