People Power Party confirms Park Heong-joon as final Busan mayoral candidate
The People Power Party's nomination management committee confirmed incumbent Mayor Park Heong-joon as the final candidate for Busan mayor on the 11th. This internal party primary reflected a 50% weighting each for delegate votes conducted for two days starting on the 9th and general public opinion poll results. The committee announced that after converting the delegate vote results and poll figures according to regulations and applying score adjustments for each candidate, Park Heong-joon was finally confirmed.
Immediately after the candidate decision, Mayor Park stated his position by referencing 'death to life' (a metaphor for a do-or-die approach). Candidate Park Heong-joon criticized Democratic Party candidate Jeon Jae-soo, defining the delay in processing the Busan Global Hub City Special Act as 'blatant discrimination against Busan.' He pointed out that candidate Jeon had reneged on his promise to pass the bill and argued that the Busan mayor is not a proxy for power.
Representative Joo Jin-woo, who was a primary rival, expressed his support for candidate Park via social media, stating, "The primary is over, and we must unite and win."
