LG Energy Solution Aims for Survival and Competitive Edge Through AI Transformation

LG Energy Solution has set a goal to improve company-wide productivity by 50% through its AI transformation (AX) by 2028.

LG Energy Solution CEO Kim Dong-myung cited the escalating competition in the global battery market, stating that simply expanding production volume, bolstered by competitor government subsidies and vast workforces, is no longer enough to secure a competitive edge. Consequently, the company has charted a course to transform its competitive strategy through AX, aiming to generate synergy by integrating its extensive patent portfolio, three decades of accumulated industry expertise, and its talent pool.

To achieve its elevated productivity targets, CEO Kim Dong-myung will activate an AI Governance Committee, which he will chair monthly. The company is also establishing a support framework, including the phased introduction of an enterprise-grade AI platform and expanded AI training across the organization.

Addressing concerns about job security due to AI adoption, Kim explained that AX is not a change that makes employees less important, but rather one that frees them from inefficient tasks, allowing them to focus on their work.
