US to Reimpose Sanctions on Iranian Crude Oil After May 19
Foreign media reports indicate the US government plans to reimpose sanctions on Iranian crude oil, which had been temporarily exempted, after the 19th. Amid rising international oil prices due to the Middle East war, the US government on the 20th of last month granted a temporary 30-day waiver for the sale of Iranian crude oil. This exemption period is set to expire on the 19th. The reimposition of these sanctions is being interpreted as a comprehensive economic pressure campaign against Iran, intended to strengthen the US position in future negotiations.
In addition, the Trump administration is implementing measures to block vessels operating to or from Iranian ports, and it did not extend the waiver for Russian crude oil transactions that expired on the 11th.
On the 14th, US government officials took steps to resume certain sanctions measures or requested reviews of existing rulings. This action followed remarks by government officials and official requests made to courts and relevant agencies concerning matters related to the Donald Trump administration.
