Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at a press conference in Beijing on April 15 following a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, openly defied US President Donald Trump's demands, asserting Iran's "inalienable right" to enrich uranium for civilian purposes. This stance directly contrasts with President Trump's insistence on halting uranium enrichment as a core condition for peace talks with Iran.

President Trump made his position clear in a Truth Social post on April 8, stating, "There will be no uranium enrichment."

JD Vance, the US Vice President, leading the American delegation in talks with Iranian officials in Islamabad on Saturday, reiterated demands that Iran's currently held enriched uranium be exported from the country and taken into US custody.
