US Message to Iran Delivered Via Pakistan

A high-level Pakistani delegation carrying a 'new' US message departed Pakistan on the 15th, heading for Tehran, Iran. The delegation to Iran is led by Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir. The team is set to deliver the 'new' US message and plans for a second round of talks, and to discuss the agenda for the second round of negotiations, which is expected to take place in Islamabad within days.

With the possibility of a second round of US-Iran ceasefire negotiations being raised for next week in Islamabad, Pakistan, Pakistani authorities have begun preparations for the talks. Pakistani sources stated that relevant agencies have been instructed to undertake administrative and security preparations for the second round of talks. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed on the 12th that message exchanges with the US via Pakistan were continuing, even after a delegation returned from Islamabad. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also stated on the 13th that the current ceasefire is due to Pakistan's efforts and that full efforts are being made to resolve pending issues.

Key issues in US-Iran negotiations include Iran halting uranium enrichment, opening the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions on Iran, and an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
