Eumseong LNG Power Plant to Commence Operations End of This Month
Unit 1 of the newly constructed liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, is set to begin electricity production by the end of this month.
The plant will contribute to stabilizing regional power supply and marks a shift in energy sources, moving from coal to natural gas. North Chungcheong Province currently has a power self-sufficiency rate in the low 15% range, and with industrial electricity demand exceeding 70%, the region has relied on importing power from elsewhere.
Once the 561MW Unit 1 commences operation late this month, it will account for approximately 20% of the total annual electricity consumption in the North Chungcheong region. This is a scale capable of supplying power simultaneously to about 1.4 million households, according to the head of the Eumseong Construction Headquarters at Korea East-West Power.
The power plant has lowered nitrogen oxide emissions to below 3ppm and adopted the latest gas turbine technology, achieving a generation efficiency of around 60%.
The power plant confirmed that it has secured sufficient LNG supplies.
