Seoul Citizens' Remembrance Ceremony to Mark 12th Anniversary of Sewol Ferry Disaster
On April 16th, the 12th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster, at 4:16 PM, the 4.16 Solidarity will hold a 'Citizens' Remembrance Ceremony' at the 'Sewol Remembrance Space' in front of the Seoul City Hall building in Jung-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the victims and reflect on the meaning of the tragedy. This ceremony is organized for citizens who cannot attend the central memorial event scheduled for the same day at Hwarang Park in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. It will proceed in the order of a moment of silence, citizen testimonials, a memorial performance, and flower offerings.
On this day, the 4.16 Solidarity will also officially publish a white paper titled 'Memory, Promise, Responsibility - A Record of the 4.16 Movement's 10 Years' (in 4 volumes), which compiles their activities over the past decade. The white paper contains records of the efforts by bereaved families and citizens towards uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable since the disaster.
Organizers stated that through this remembrance ceremony, they aim to share with the public a pledge to remember the pain of the disaster and build a safer society.
