National Tax Service Promotes 56 Employees for Outstanding Achievements
The National Tax Service has specially promoted 56 employees for the first half of this year who achieved excellent results in collecting taxes from those who did not pay them on time or in tax investigations. The NTS stated that this year's appointments were the first in the agency's history to involve employees directly participating in the decision-making process through blind evaluations.
Investigator Han Hyo-sook of the Central Regional Tax Office's Tax Collection and Litigation Bureau was selected for promotion to Grade 5 after locating a tax evader who was hiding at the address of his mistress's son to evade pursuit. Han successfully collected billions of won in bearer negotiable certificates of deposit that the evader had hidden between book pages.
Investigator Kim Ga-min of the Yongin Tax Office's Tax Collection Division was promoted to Grade 7 for her work on a high-value tax evasion case involving a development company. Kim meticulously reviewed the construction and trust contracts and legal complaints, establishing that the overdue tax payments qualified as a senior claim under the trust agreement. This finding allowed her to pressure the delinquent taxpayer into making the payment, resulting in the collection of tens of billions of won in back taxes.
