Seongmisan Village Holds Memorial Event for 12th Anniversary of Sewol Ferry Disaster

To mark the 12th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster, Seongmisan Village residents held an event on the evening of the 16th at Mangwon Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul, to reflect on the meaning of the tragedy. Together with people from Seongmisan Village, they conducted a concentrated publicity event for the 12th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster, singing the song 'The Truth Will Not Sink'. Students from Seongmisan School's secondary program also handed out Sewol ribbon keychains and yellow butterfly paper to passersby. This was a moment for the community to carry on the memory.

During the period of the 12th anniversary of the April 16 Sewol ferry disaster, Seongmisan School students participated in various memorial events, including a citizens' rally in front of City Hall Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, the Seongmisan Village Memory Festival, and a remembrance ceremony at Hwarang Public Park in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. They sang at the Seongmisan Village Memory Festival on the 15th.

Tae-kyung, an 8th-grader met at the Ansan remembrance ceremony, said he also attended the 10th anniversary remembrance ceremony two years ago. Tae-kyung mentioned that President Lee Jae-myung attended the remembrance ceremony on the 16th. 6th-grader A-in and 8th-grader Da-on said they would strive to keep the Sewol ferry disaster in memory.
