Song Eon-seok Urges Minister Jeong Dong-young's Dismissal
Song Eon-seok, floor leader of the People Power Party, announced on the 20th that he would demand opposition to the abolition of the special tax deduction for long-term asset holding (Jangteukgong) and the dismissal of Unification Minister Jeong Dong-young during a meeting with Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. At a Supreme Council meeting held the same day, Song also emphasized the need to dismiss Minister Jeong, citing the US's week-long restriction on sharing North Korea information with South Korea. He argued for Jeong's immediate dismissal, stating that the volume of North Korea-related information shared daily had dropped from 50 to 100 pages to zero.
Meanwhile, the floor leaderships of both parties agreed during their luncheon meeting that day to process approximately 30 non-contentious livelihood bills at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 23rd and to commence consultations on the appointment process for the special prosecutor.
Jang Dong-hyuk, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, reported during the Supreme Council meeting that US officials have expressed concerns about South Korea's North Korea policy. He suggested that this situation was not unrelated to the Unification Minister, raising the need to review the government's foreign and security affairs line.
