BMW Deploys Humanoid Robots for EV Production at German Plant

BMW has begun testing AI-powered humanoid robots for electric vehicle (EV) production at its Leipzig plant in Germany. This marks a new initiative aimed at increasing production efficiency, building upon the successful pilot operations conducted at its U.S. plants.

The robots introduced are the AI-based AEON models from Hexagon Robotics. They will be evaluated for their capabilities as they work flexibly within the factory.

In a previous pilot program at its South Carolina facility, these robots were deployed for specific tasks, such as precise positioning of sheet metal on the BMW X3 production line, contributing to the production of over 30,000 vehicles.
