Trump denies Israel pushed him into Iran war

U.S. President Donald Trump has denied claims that Israel led him into a war with Iran. President Trump stated that Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, reinforced his view that Iran must be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons. In a 'Truth Social' post dated April 20, 2026, he mentioned that Israel had no influence on the decision for war with Iran, and the results would be 'amazing.'

In a 'Truth Social' post dated April 19, 2026, President Trump claimed Iran violated a ceasefire agreement in the Strait of Hormuz and opened fire. He added that a ceasefire was announced earlier this month, but tensions continue. President Trump warned that if Iran did not accept the U.S. proposal, U.S. military power would destroy all of Iran's power plants and bridges.

The U.S. destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) seized the Iranian-flagged cargo ship M/V Touska in the northern Arabian Sea. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the crew of the Touska did not alter course for over six hours despite repeated warnings, leading to the disabling of the vessel's propulsion.
