POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks Develops System to Predict Equipment Malfunctions
POSCO's Gwangyang Steelworks has developed a predictive system called 'PIMS-Q' that detects early signs of equipment abnormalities. This marks the first achievement of its kind for a POSCO facility.
PIMS-Q (POSCO Intelligent Maintenance System-Quality) is a system that comprehensively analyzes and real-time monitors foundational data from production equipment directly linked to product quality. Developed in collaboration with the EIC Technology Department, Hot Rolling Department, and Quality Technology Department, the system monitors various data such as temperature, flow rate, and pressure.
This system prevents quality defects that can arise from insufficient pressure during the surface quality improvement process through high-pressure water spraying in the hot rolling process, by monitoring real-time pressure data. It also blocks factors affecting quality beforehand by monitoring various data, such as bearing temperature for slab heating abnormality prevention.
Gwangyang Steelworks completed the establishment of PIMS-Q across all units of the hot rolling plant by last month and plans to sequentially expand its application to other plants, including steelmaking, cold rolling, and plating, by June.
