Sunchang County Mayor Choi Young-il Faces Controversy Over Boarding Vehicle in Disabled Parking Space

Sunchang County Mayor Choi Young-il has sparked controversy after it was revealed he boarded a vehicle parked in a disabled parking zone on April 17, following the Sunchang County Citizen's Day event. The vehicle was parked in the disabled spot without the required 'Disabled Parking Permit' sticker.

This action raises concerns about potential violations of the Act on the Promotion of Convenience for Persons with Disabilities, the Elderly, Pregnant Women, etc. Parking a vehicle without a disabled parking permit is prohibited by law. The Act strictly forbids parking in disabled parking zones without a permit, with no exceptions. Even for reasons such as festivals or events, parking vehicles without disabled permits is not legally permitted.

A Sunchang County official explained that Mayor Choi had to move quickly to another event and did not realize the spot was a disabled parking zone when parking.

Critics point out that such behavior from a public official can draw significant moral criticism.
