Hyundai Motor Group has declared a breakthrough in the local market and a shift towards an EV-centric brand by unveiling the first Chinese mass-produced model for its dedicated electric vehicle brand 'IONIQ' at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show. After 24 years since establishing its local joint venture in 2002, Hyundai Motor Group is attempting its biggest transformation, betting on a brand shift centered on electric vehicles to recover its market share in China.

This Chinese mass-produced model will feature an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) developed in collaboration with local autonomous driving company Momenta, and a range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) designed with the Chinese market's specific characteristics in mind is slated for release next year.

Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor, announced that the company aims to launch 20 new models in the Chinese market over the next five years and achieve annual sales of 500,000 units.

Hyundai Motor Group is exploring multifaceted collaboration measures with companies like CATL, Sinopec, and Yueda Group, including next-generation battery technology, the creation of a hydrogen ecosystem, and the establishment of future mobility business structures.
