Samsung Electronics Union Warns of General Strike Over 15% Operating Profit Bonus Demand
Samsung Electronics Union held a rally demanding performance bonuses equivalent to 15% of the company's operating profit. Approximately 40,000 union members participated in the rally, protesting the breakdown of negotiations with management over the past four months. The union announced that it would go on a general strike starting May 21 if their demands are not met.
At the rally site, a performance was held where photos of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, and President Roh Tae-moon were placed on the floor.
On the same day, a shareholder group opposing the union's demands held a rally near the campus.
