The People Power Party has named lawyer Kang Ji-sik, a former prosecutor affiliated with Baeksong Law Firm, as its candidate for the Special Inspector General, a position allocated to the opposition party. Yoo Sang-bum, Deputy Floor Leader for Operations of the People Power Party, announced on the 24th that lawyer Kang has been designated as the candidate for Special Inspector General and will be submitted to National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik.

Lawyer Kang, a former prosecutor who completed the 27th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, was appointed as a prosecutor at the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office in 1998. Hailing from Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, he graduated from Korea University's Law Department and gained experience in special investigations while serving as Chief Prosecutor of Pyeongtaek District, Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, and Chief Prosecutor of Ansan District.

The Special Inspector General is a Vice-Ministerial-level political appointee responsible for investigating the President's relatives and high-ranking public officials. The National Assembly recommends three candidates, from whom the President then appoints one. The position of Special Inspector General has been vacant for nearly 10 years, since the resignation of former Special Inspector General Lee Suk-soo in 2016. Kang Hoon-sik, Chief Presidential Secretary, reported on the 19th that the President had requested the National Assembly to initiate the appointment process for a Special Inspector General.
