Second Oil Tanker Arrives at Iraq's Basra Oil Terminal
An oil tanker arrived at an oil terminal near Basra in southern Iraq on the 24th (local time). The Iraqi Ports Authority told AFP Communications that it received the oil tanker 'HELGA' on Friday and announced its arrival through publicly released video.
This is the second vessel to arrive in Iraq since concerns about a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, on April 17th, the port authority announced the arrival of an oil tanker carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil. Iraq reached an agreement with the United States and Iran earlier this month to reduce the impact of a Strait of Hormuz blockade on oil exports. Iraq has been exporting a significant portion of its crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
Recently, Iraq has been focusing on seeking alternative routes. Early this month, Iraqi authorities resumed crude oil exports of 250,000 barrels per day through Turkey's Ceyhan port and announced the start of crude oil exports via oil trucks transiting through Syria. The Iraqi Ports Authority stated that it will provide the best services to all vessels.
