Daegu Superintendent Candidate Im Seong-mo Cites Practical Limits of IB Education

Im Seong-mo, a preliminary candidate for Daegu Superintendent of Education, criticized the incumbent superintendent's key policies by pointing out a significant gap between the International Baccalaureate (IB) education program and the reality of university admissions in the Daegu region. While IB is a globally recognized educational program, Im raised concerns about the situation where students who complete the IB program still need to prepare for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) to enter domestic universities. Candidate Im questioned the practical application of IB education, asserting that despite the education office's active promotion, the IB curriculum has not been properly established in actual school settings.

According to Candidate Im, the low number of schools operating the IB curriculum in Daegu's Suseong-gu and the lukewarm response from private schools to adopting IB serve as evidence. This indicates that IB education does not align with realistic admission outcomes for university entrance.

Candidate Im also addressed the possibility of unifying with candidate Seo Jung-hyun to contend against Superintendent Kang Eun-hee, but stated that practical issues remain concerning specific conditions. He explained that as he is running due to demands from civil society and teachers, while Seo decided to run on his own, there are time constraints and procedural complexities in how unification would proceed.
