DP Labels Prosecutors' Special Activity Funds 'Judicial Dictatorship,' Demands Investigation Authority Reform
Justice Minister Chung Sung-ho stated on the 26th that regarding the investigative practices exposed during the parliamentary audit of political cases, it was difficult to defend the actions, pointing to over hundreds of raids and more than 100 summonses of defendants and witnesses to alter the indictments they had themselves written.
Minister Chung emphasized that if a prosecutor is strongly suspected of not adhering to due process, it is also the prosecutor's role to investigate, reveal the truth, and correct it to realize justice. He added that the prosecutor's duty and mission are to realize justice through the pursuit of truth, and compliance with due process is a constitutional requirement for this.
Minister Chung pointed out that the prosecution is facing public criticism for actively colluding in the elimination of President Yoon Suk-yeol's political rivals throughout his tenure, and argued that the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution must address the errors and pain of this era.
The Democratic Party will conclude its parliamentary audit into the 'Case of Suspicion of Fabricated Indictments by Political Prosecutors under the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration' and pursue the introduction of a special prosecutor.
