Israel Deploys Iron Dome to UAE for First Time

Reports have emerged that Israel has sent batteries of its key air defense system, the 'Iron Dome,' along with accompanying personnel, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a period of heightened tensions with Iran. This move could signal a significant shift in the regional security landscape.

Since the war between the US, Israel, and Iran began on February 28, the UAE has been a primary target for Iran. According to the UAE's Ministry of Defense, Iran launched approximately 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and over 2,200 drones towards the UAE at that time.

Following the UAE's request for urgent assistance from its allies, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly approved the deployment of the Iron Dome after a phone call with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This is reportedly the first time the Iron Dome has been deployed to a country other than Israel or the United States, with whom it was co-developed. The Iron Dome systems deployed in the UAE have proven their capabilities by intercepting dozens of Iranian missiles.

Officials from both countries explained that Israel and the UAE have maintained close military and political cooperation since the outbreak of the Iran war. The Israeli Air Force has also conducted direct airstrikes in southern Iran to intercept threats targeting Gulf nations.
