The suspect rushed the security checkpoint and shot a security guard, but the guard survived thanks to a bulletproof vest. Following this incident, President Trump and cabinet members were evacuated from the event, and the dinner was rescheduled.

President Trump explained that he was unable to proceed with his speech due to security concerns when the dinner event had to be resumed after the shooting. He stated that security regulations required the dinner to be canceled, but he made efforts to continue with it.
