Hyundai Launches Pilot Program for EV Battery Subscription Service

Hyundai Motor Group is embarking on a pilot program for an electric vehicle battery subscription service. This pilot project is being carried out with special government approval.

Five Hyundai IONIQ 5 vehicles operating as corporate taxis in the Seoul metropolitan area will participate in this service, where users will pay a monthly fee instead of a one-time battery purchase. This service demonstrates a technological trend of separating ownership of the EV's body (chassis) and its battery.

Based on the pilot results, Hyundai Motor Group plans to launch a battery subscription model for electric vehicles targeted at general consumers in the second half of this year. This case exemplifies the expansion of new service models in line with the latest technological trends.
