One Dead in Logistics Center Accident Ahead of "Yellow Envelope Law" Implementation
Amid ongoing conflicts over the interpretation of the "Yellow Envelope Law" ahead of its implementation, an accident near a convenience store logistics center resulted in one death and two injuries. On the 20th of last month, an incident occurred in front of the CU Jinju logistics center where members of the Cargo Workers' Union were struck by a vehicle. This accident led to one fatality and two injuries. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a non-union replacement worker, has been referred to prosecutors on murder charges.
The driver of the vehicle stated that he continued driving due to the confusion at the scene at the time. The incident is analyzed as a manifestation of accumulated conflicts stemming from complex contractual structures between primary and secondary contractors and the failure to achieve direct negotiations. During the CU incident, cargo workers repeatedly requested direct negotiations with the company, but these requests were not met.
Although an agreement has been reached between CU and the cargo workers, concerns remain that the embers of conflict originating from the multi-tiered contractual structure could reignite, leading to similar clashes. Similar physical confrontations have occurred at other sites, such as Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant.
