People Power Party Busan Chapter Recommends Oh Tae-won for Buk-gu Mayor Again; Lee Hye-young Seeks Injunction to Halt Nomination
The People Power Party's Busan City Chapter Nomination Committee has re-recommended incumbent Buk-gu District Mayor Oh Tae-won as its candidate for the mayoral race. This decision was made independently of a court ruling that suspended the effect of the nomination process.
Lee Hye-young, a lawyer who had applied for the Buk-gu District Mayor nomination under the People Power Party, filed a provisional injunction with the court seeking to suspend the nomination process after being cut off. The court accepted her application.
Oh Tae-won, the current Buk-gu District Mayor, received a sentence equivalent to disqualification from office in the first trial for violating election laws during his tenure, with an appeal currently underway.
A representative from the People Power Party's Busan City Chapter stated that the party received guidance from the central party allowing candidate decisions if more than two-thirds of the nomination committee members approve. The representative added that there are no procedural or legal defects, as the candidate was decided unanimously.
