Provincial Assembly Member Accused of Bribery to Coerce Rival Candidate to Withdraw
A South Jeolla Provincial Assembly member has been reported to the prosecution on charges of giving money to a rival candidate to coerce them into withdrawing from the upcoming June 3 local elections.
The South Jeolla Election Commission announced on the 15th that it had filed a complaint with the prosecution against incumbent Assembly member A, accusing him of providing money and valuables to constituents in exchange for inducing withdrawal from candidacy during the June 3 local election process.
A is suspected of visiting the home of C, an acquaintance of B, an independent candidate scheduled to run in the same constituency, late last month. He is accused of asking C to persuade B not to participate in the election and handing over 10 million won in cash.
