DP Slams PPP's 'Abuse of Power' Claims as 'Shameless Double Standard'

The Democratic Party (DP) pushed back against the People Power Party's (PPP) accusation that President Yoon Suk-yeol's visits to traditional markets constitute 'abuse of power for election purposes.' "It is a shameless double standard for those who praised his previous 'people's livelihood forums' to now question the president's state affairs management," the DP stated. The DP characterized the PPP's claims not as 'abuse of power for election purposes' but as an attempt to 'obstruct state affairs,' questioning the PPP's past stance of praising President Yoon's engagement with the public as focusing on 'people's livelihood' two years ago. Park Ji-hye, spokesperson for the DP, emphasized that the president's traditional market visits are part of his state affairs management, aimed at comforting citizens and small business owners struggling with high prices and inspecting the situation on the ground. She urged the PPP to "transcend its limitations and move beyond repeating the outdated practices of the 'Yoon Suk-yeol government' without severing ties with the past."

Song Eon-seok, the PPP's floor leader, criticized the president's recent visits to traditional markets on Facebook, calling them 'blatant abuse of power for election purposes and election interference.' He stated, "If this happens one more time, the People Power Party will immediately pursue legal action."
