Parties Clash Over 'Punishment for Rebellion' on May 18th Anniversary

The Democratic Party leadership is rallying its Honam support base by emphasizing a message of 'correcting past wrongs defined as rebellion' on the 46th anniversary of the May 18th Democratization Movement.

The People Power Party leadership also visited Gwangju that day. The Democratic Party escalated its offensive against the People Power Party, criticizing them as the 'masterminds' of the December 3rd emergency martial law and those who opposed constitutional amendments to enshrine the May 18th spirit.

In the Honam region, a Democratic stronghold, 'cracks' are being detected due to conflicts over local election nominations. In response, the Democratic Party is taking steps to clearly draw a line against the opposition party and emphasize unity for victory based on the 'Spirit of May'.
