Experts Warn Trump's Taiwan Arms Talk Risks Undermining Allies' Trust
US experts have warned that the prospect of former President Donald Trump's remarks on arms sales to Taiwan being used as leverage in negotiations with China could damage allies' trust. This has raised concerns about the impact on the international security order and alliance relations.
A professor of international affairs at the University of Virginia analyzed that former President Trump's actions could amplify allies' distrust in US security commitments.
The professor explained that South Korea also needs to seek improved relations with Russia to weaken the Russia-North Korea relationship, which is an obstacle to resolving the North Korean nuclear issue. He predicted that Russia might demand South Korea halt its arms exports to Poland in exchange for restoring relations with South Korea, analyzing this as Russia considering it indirect support for Ukraine.
