Yoo Eui-dong Mulls Unification With Hwang Kyo-ahn
Yoo Eui-dong, a candidate for the National Power Party in the Pyeongtaek B constituency by-election, announced on the 20th that he is reviewing discussions for unification with Hwang Kyo-ahn, a candidate for Liberty and Innovation. Regarding the possibility of candidate unification within the conservative camp, Yoo explained, "While my views and Hwang's views differ, those differences are not as far apart as those with the Democratic Party or the Cho Kuk Innovation Party." He indicated that his basic stance is that he cannot ignore the demands of residents, suggesting he is taking these demands seriously.
When questioned about which progressive camp candidate would be more advantageous to unify with – Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party or Cho Kuk of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party – he responded, "I do not believe Cho's supporters and Kim's supporters have a high degree of compatibility." He added that unification within the progressive camp is not a significant burden for him, judging that it would not connect through a simple sum and could provoke further backlash.
The Pyeongtaek B by-election is currently unfolding as a five-way race, with unification discussions between National Power Party candidate Yoo Eui-dong and Liberty and Innovation candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn emerging as a late variable.
