Im Mun-yeong, a candidate for the Gwangju Gwangsan-gu National Assembly by-election for the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed that Gwangju should be developed beyond a mere self-driving test city into a production base for robot taxis. Candidate Im presented AI and autonomous driving industries as Gwangju's future growth engines, emphasizing the need to establish not only research and experimental facilities but also actual production infrastructure and an industrial ecosystem in Gwangju.

He added that it is important to expand current self-driving demonstration projects in Gwangju into a 'living lab' concept involving all citizens and the city, and to connect this to regional industrial development.

Based on his experience as an AI strategist, Im Mun-yeong stated his commitment to solving the youth employment issue by combining AI, autonomous driving, and advanced manufacturing to create a city where young people do not leave the region.
