SoluM Eyes Growth with High-Voltage Solutions for AI Data Centers
SoluM is paving a new path for growth by entering the high-voltage power solutions market, aligning with the increased data center investment spurred by the expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. The rapid growth of the AI industry has increased the usage of high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), making data center power supply and cooling systems a critical challenge. As AI servers become more common, power supply and cooling systems have emerged as core operational imperatives for data centers. Racks housing the latest AI servers demand significantly more power than conventional servers, prompting the data center industry to overhaul existing structures to enhance power efficiency.
The market is transitioning from existing 50V-based IT rack structures to architectures utilizing 800V direct current (HVDC). Increasing voltage allows for reduced current, thereby minimizing power loss. Such a shift can also lead to the creation of new component markets, such as Battery Backup Units (BBUs). BBUs are essential devices for maintaining the stability of data center operations during power outages or disruptions. As the importance of AI data centers grows, ensuring power stability becomes a crucial task, and any interruption in power supply can result in losses.
In response to these changes, SoluM has begun developing high-voltage DC-DC converters for 800VDC-based BBUs. These components play a vital role in data center power systems by stably converting and supplying voltage. The industry anticipates rapid growth in the related component market if data center power structures transition to high-voltage direct current systems. SoluM also expects to secure growth engines by entering this market.
Currently, SoluM is preparing for the commercialization of related products. It plans to conduct compatibility tests for its high-voltage products in the second quarter of this year, with mass production targeted for the first quarter of 2027. Successful testing will significantly increase its chances of entering the global data center supply chain.
Its existing business also continues to show stable growth. SoluM operates a power supply unit (PSU) business for servers and stands to benefit from the expansion of this related market. The increased demand for AI servers is directly linked to the growth of the high-performance PSU market. The expansion of the AI industry has ripple effects across the entire infrastructure, not just for semiconductor companies but also for power management, cooling, and network equipment. SoluM is also mentioned as a beneficiary of this structural growth. The potential for acquiring new clients is also drawing attention, as the competition to build AI data centers intensifies, driving demand for power solution suppliers.
The industry views data center power infrastructure as set to become one of the core industries of the AI era. There are limits to semiconductor performance improvements alone, and enhancing power efficiency is emerging as a key competitive factor. Within this evolving landscape, SoluM simultaneously pursues the stability of its existing PSU business and the growth potential of its new high-voltage solutions business.
