Nvidia Targets PC Market with Custom Chips
Nvidia is making a full-fledged entry into the PC market with Windows PCs based on its own chips, challenging the dominance of Intel and AMD. Nvidia, the global market cap leader, is joining hands with Microsoft to unveil new AI PCs.
Joint development achievements and new products are expected to be announced on the 2nd at Computex, Asia's largest information technology (IT) exhibition held in Taiwan, and at Microsoft's Build developer event in San Francisco.
These new products are reportedly set to be the first Windows PCs to use Nvidia chips as the PC's main processor. While Nvidia has focused its business on graphics processing units (GPUs), it is now expanding its business into the central processing unit (CPU) domain. The industry widely anticipates that an ARM-based processor, which Nvidia has been developing for years, will be applied to these products.
Nvidia's entry into the PC market is expected to put significant pressure on existing PC CPU market leaders such as Intel and AMD, as well as Qualcomm, which leads the ARM-based Windows PC market. The possibility of an overall market expansion through increased AI PC demand and the growth of the ARM ecosystem is also being discussed.
