KOSPI Surges Past 8800, Hits Record Closing High; Retail, Institutions Defend Index Amid Foreign Sell-off
The KOSPI on the 2nd once again recorded its highest-ever closing price. The index briefly surpassed the 8900 mark in early trading before experiencing volatility, ultimately closing above the 8800 level. On this day, the KOSPI finished trading 13.11 points higher than the previous day, at 8801.49. It reached a high of 8933.62 and dipped to 8503.12 during the session but managed to close higher after fluctuating with renewed buying interest.
In terms of trading flow, the pattern of foreign selling and individual buying continued. On the KOSPI market, foreign investors net sold 6.6095 trillion won, marking their 18th consecutive session of net selling. However, individual investors bought 6.3473 trillion won, and institutions also joined in to defend the index with a net purchase of 241.3 billion won.
Among individual stocks, Samsung Electronics rose by over 3%, touching the 370,000 won mark for the first time during trading hours. News emerged that Samsung Electronics had entered the global top 10 market capitalization rankings for listed companies, surpassing Meta. SK Hynix broke the 2.4 million won level in early trading, setting a new record high. Telecommunication, insurance, and holding companies also showed strong performance.
The KOSDAQ market continued its decline for the fifth consecutive trading day. On this day, the KOSDAQ closed down 24.00 points at 1026.03.
