AI Apps Significantly Boost App Store Revenue

Apps equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) features have recorded high revenues on the App Store, significantly increasing payment volumes for related applications. Last year, the payment volume growth rate for apps including AI features was nearly four times higher than that of apps without them. Notably, over 40 of the top 100 apps by payment volume on the App Store last year were offering AI features to consumers.

Apple explained that AI capabilities are expanding beyond chatbots to encompass a wide range of consumer-facing applications, including document creation, image generation, productivity tools, search, and education.

Last year, the App Store generated a total of $140 billion (approximately 2,146 trillion Korean won) in developer payments and revenue. This marked an increase of about $100 billion from the previous year's $130 billion.

Apple appears to be highlighting its strategy of securing the distribution and payment flow for consumer AI services through the App Store, rather than directly promoting its own AI apps.
