National Election Commission Apologizes Over Controversial Image in Promotional Video
The National Election Commission (NEC) has officially apologized for an image included in a promotional video for the June 3 local election results broadcast that could be perceived as disparaging a specific region. The NEC expressed deep regret for the inappropriate image used in the video produced in cooperation with KBS. The commission immediately made the video private on its official YouTube channel upon recognizing the issue.
The video was produced by KBSN, a KBS subsidiary, through an external contractor. KBS, after reviewing the production process, found no intention whatsoever to disparage any specific region or group. KBS had already issued a formal apology for the video on its 9 o'clock news program and stated it would hold those involved in its production accountable.
The promotional video for election observers, released on the NEC's official YouTube channel on the 28th of last month, featured graphics reminiscent of a skate fish. Some online communities pointed out that this image was similar to expressions used to disparage a particular region, leading to allegations of regional prejudice.
