President Lee to Visit Europe for G7 Summit
President Lee Jae-myung will visit Europe from June 9 to 18. The itinerary includes visits to Belgium, the European Union (EU), the Vatican, and Italy. The G7 Summit is scheduled to be held in Evian, France, and President Lee will attend the summit on June 16-17 after visiting the Vatican on June 14-15.
The President will hold bilateral summits with Belgium and the EU in Brussels on June 9-10 (local time). Subsequently, he will make a state visit to Italy on June 12-13 for a summit with Italian leaders. On June 14-15, he will visit the Vatican to attend a special Mass at St. Peter's Basilica and meet with Pope Francis.
A senior official at the Presidential Office mentioned the possibility of pursuing bilateral meetings with leaders of major countries on the occasion of the G7 Summit, specifically revealing that discussions are underway regarding a potential meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. If this meeting materializes, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to elevate South Korea's standing in the international community and deepen discussions on key issues. This European tour is structured around attending the G7 Summit, with the goal of strengthening bilateral cooperation with Belgium, the European Union, the Vatican, and Italy.
