Personal Information Commission Investigates Election Commission Voter List Leak

The Personal Information Protection Commission has begun investigating the facts after receiving a report of a voter list data leak from the National Election Commission. The commission received the report from the National Election Commission regarding the discovery of a voter list reconciliation slip, containing voters' names and genders, at the 2nd polling station in Jamsil 7-dong, Songpa District, Seoul.

The commission is currently verifying specific facts, including the route through which the reconciliation slip was exposed externally and whether it constitutes a leak of data that the Election Commission should have kept secure. An official from the Personal Information Protection Commission stated that the incident is different in nature from typical personal information leaks due to hacking or external intrusion.
