Android AI to Block Voice Phishing Calls in Advance
Android's AI capabilities will now block voice phishing calls preemptively. This feature is integrated into the 'Phone by Google' app and is designed to detect suspicious spoofed calls when both the caller and recipient are using the app.
The 'fake call detection' works by verifying if the call is originating from the actual device of the other party. If the verification signal from a trusted contact is absent or if the call is determined not to be originating from a real device, the user will receive a warning message indicating that the call may be fake.
With the widespread adoption of internet-based caller ID spoofing technology, it has become common for the displayed number to not match the actual origin. When combined with AI voice technology, it has become possible to imitate the voices of people users trust. Such situations can prompt victims to react immediately, leading to financial losses and emotional distress.
These identity theft scams are emerging as a serious global problem. To protect users, the Android operating system is implementing this new preventative measure as a technological response. This feature is being rolled out gradually and is expected to become available on more Android devices in the future.
