Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-soo Reported for Election Law Violations
The Gyeongnam Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea has reported Park Wan-soo, the governor-elect of Gyeongnam Province from the People Power Party, and Yoo Myeong-hyun, the mayor-elect of Sancheong County, to the police on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
The Democratic Party's Gyeongnam chapter submitted a complaint to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, stating it had confirmed evidence that Governor-elect Park visited a religious facility in Sancheong County, where he does not regularly attend services, and made a monetary donation under the pretext of a 'gratitude offering' during the election campaign period. The chapter explained that a candidate making a donation, identifying themselves at a religious facility they do not usually frequent during the campaign period, could be considered an act of donation to a group that includes voters within the constituency.
Mayor-elect Yoo Myeong-hyun of Sancheong County was also reported along with Governor-elect Park, as evidence of similar donation activities was confirmed. Donation activities can be considered a violation of election law under the Public Official Election Act.
