Former US President Donald Trump claimed on January 9 (local time) that a US military helicopter that crashed near the Strait of Hormuz was shot down by Iran, and stated that a US response is necessary. In a post on his social media, the former president said that the two helicopter pilots were injured but safe, emphasizing the need for decisive action regarding the incident.

The US Central Command announced that it is investigating the helicopter crash. Some Iranian media outlets have reported possibilities of a downing, and foreign media reports have indicated an atmosphere that effectively admits to the downing through some Iranian sources.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, expressed confidence in military operational capabilities via social media platform X, stating, 'While preferring the language of diplomacy, we are also fluent in other languages (military operations).' Ghalibaf added, 'If promises are broken, we will respond in a military manner.'

Meanwhile, the incident occurred shortly after a large-scale missile exchange between Israel and Iran concluded. This has heightened regional tensions and raised concerns about future US-Iran relations and the geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
